This is one of my favorite paintings because I love the dishes shown in the painting. Mother brought home some like these one day and I thought they were wonderful. Of course she only could afford a few and those passed with time.
This was a studio painting done in a class. My job was to paint the fruit as luscious and appealing as I could. Believe it or not this was not easy. I finished rather quickly and thought I was done. My teacher said, "Hmm, that's a good start."
I found some really nice sunflowers of different kinds and decided to paint them. Then I climbed up to the top cabinets and pulled out this old crock pitcher which belonged to a grandmother. It made a perfect container. The cup and saucer belonged to my mother so this is a family piece.
A lovely soft green, antique vase made in the from of bamboo joints inspired this 22x28 composition. I searched for flowers to go in it. I found pink roses, nice and full, and two kinds of orchids. A piece of Pink Miss America and a Chinese bird filled the scene.
This is a handsome 16x20 painting framed in a beautiful frame. It was my first attempt at painting a copper piece. I borrowed the bucket and filled it with zinnias of summer colors. Next I placed a small Red Rooster plate and a red mug in the mix.
